Work at Bradley & Riley PC
Informal
Atmosphere
Our working atmosphere is pleasant and informal, and we consider
this to be a strong asset. The attorneys and staff have a
team-oriented approach and clients do not “belong”
to one lawyer or another. All of our clients are “firm”
clients. This approach allows us to provide the most efficient
and comprehensive service to our clients. Social events, both
impromptu and scheduled, help develop and preserve informal
relationships. Firm-wide activities are an important ingredient
of our comfortable atmosphere.
Bradley & Riley PC has made a commitment
to the continued involvement of its lawyers in the professional
arena and the community. Many of our lawyers have served in
leadership positions in the Iowa State and Linn County Bar
Associations, and our lawyers are frequently asked to speak
on specialty areas of the law. We encourage our lawyers to
become active in the community as well as in the profession.
We believe that taking an active role in the community is
a vital part of becoming responsible citizens and better lawyers.
A Range
of Experience
Because our firm provides a range of services,
new associates have exciting alternatives and opportunities
available to them. To the extent possible, associates are
assigned to cases or projects at their inception and work
on them with a lead attorney until resolved. This allows the
associates to develop a more complete understanding of the
client's needs, and therefore provide more efficient and pertinent
legal advice to the client. In addition, associates are given
the opportunity to work on different projects with several
different attorneys. We believe it is in the best interest
of the firm and the associates to provide associates with
a broad experience and the flexibility to develop individual
practice preferences.
Our lawyers learn by doing and by working with those
who have experience. By providing our associates with flexibility,
guidance and substantial client involvement and responsibility,
we give them an environment where they can enjoy the practice of
law and become excellent lawyers.
Staff
We are fortunate to have an experienced, dedicated and talented
staff of legal assistants, legal secretaries, accounting and
clerical personnel. Many of our staff have been with the firm
for more than ten years, and some for more than twenty years.
Our staff believes in the firm's team approach to practicing
law and strives to help us provide timely and quality legal
products and services.
Progress of an
Associate We have established
a comprehensive training program for our associates. As a part of
this program, associates are assisted on a regular basis to become
better lawyers and to gain a broad background of legal experience.
Experienced lawyers provide informal comments and constructive criticism
on a continual basis so the associates know their rate of progress.
To further facilitate the learning process, each associate is assigned
one or more advisors. Based on input from advisors and all of the
shareholders with whom the associate works, each associate is evaluated
formally on at least an annual basis. Although not every associate
in every firm becomes a shareholder or partner, it is our hope that
all of our associates will mature and develop their legal abilities
so that they can become shareholders.
Technology
We have made a commitment
to technology to provide our lawyers, legal assistants and secretaries
with state of the art tools to offer efficient, quality service
to our clients. Notebook computers and secure remote access
to our network are available to our lawyers and staff, enabling
them to support client needs from anywhere and at any time.
Our Manager of Information Systems is a Microsoft Certified Professional who works closely with our lawyers and staff to maximize the
use of current technologies. Our technology infrastructure
includes a number of tools at each desktop, including case
management, electronic research, document and records management
and production, automated document assembly, litigation support
and trial presentation, and the use of Microsoft Office Professional®
for the convenience of our clients.
Summer
Associates
Summer associates are a valuable source
of new associates for the firm. We view our summer associate
program as more than just a continuation of the legal research
done at law school. We strive to allow our summer associates
to work in a variety of areas of practice to acquaint them
with all aspects of the firm's full range of services and
our client base. We carefully evaluate the work of each summer
associate with a view toward potential employment as an associate
of the firm.
Candidates
We are always looking for law students
with strong academic and extra-curricular credentials to join
us. We send representatives to selected law schools for on-campus
interviews each year. Obviously, however, it is not possible
to conduct interviews at more than a few law schools. Even
where we do conduct on-campus meetings it is still not possible
to talk to all interested students. Law students interested
in our firm are encouraged to contact us.
We are also continually seeking experienced lawyers,
who share our values, to join us laterally. Many of our attorneys
practiced in larger metropolitan areas before deciding to
relocate to Iowa. If you would like to explore a sophisticated
practice in a community where the way of life is easier, and
the quality of life is better, please get in touch with us.
